The traditional wedding gift in Vietnamese culture is money in a red envelope. For guests who prefer to purchase gifts, though, Steve and Amy have spent some time thinking of some things they might need.

Steve and Amy have set up a gift registry at Sears, available in their online registry site. You can purchase online and have it sent to them directly or their closest store, or you can print the registry list and buy from it at any Sears location.

Steve's family is Northern European in ancestry, with an English mother and Norwegian ancestry father. Most of the weddings of Steve's family members have been fairly traditional North American weddings, some smaller and some larger, but always focusing on celebrating the newly-married couple's future happiness.

Steve's parents, Barry and Sheelagh Willer, have fond memories of Grandpa Willer driving over the matchbooks for their wedding, and their car being filled with evergeen trees and smoke bombs before the wedding reception.

Steve's sister and her husband, Cristen and Gonçalo Abecasis, have wonderful memories of a big Portuguese wedding, although Cristen laments having a hard time getting Gonçalo to leave the wedding because the caterers kept serving the groom cup after cup of the late-night Caldo Verde soup. Cristen and Gonçalo remember walking to their hotel, a short distance from the wedding reception, while club partiers screamed and cheered at the newlyweds.

Amy's family is Vietnamese, and the wedding and reception will incorporate several traditional Vietnamese ceremonies. Amy was also raised Catholic, and as such the wedding ceremony will be performed with a Catholic Mass.

A traditional Vietnamese wedding consists of an extensive set of ceremonies: asking permission to receive the bride, receiving the bride at her house, and bringing the bride to the groom’s house. Vietnamese people who are living abroad and desire to have a hybrid traditional Vietnamese and Western-style wedding will often incorporate the last two ceremonies with the Western-style wedding, performing the Catholic ceremony after the traditional Vietnamese ones.

Before the Catholic ceremonies, in the morning of August 7, Amy and Steve will have a traditional Vietnamese wedding procession and tea ceremony at Amy's aunt's house. We hope to have a video presentation of this ceremony during the reception; in the meantime, you can see what it's like in this Youtube video.

Corey is an uncle of the Groom. With only a few years difference in age, Steve and Corey grew up more like cousins. What 8 year old would call an 10 year old ‘Uncle’ anyway? Corey moved to Sydney, Australia and enjoyed a fun-filled beach lifestyle. It was 'downunder' where he met a fair maiden of his own, and for the past 3 years, he and his lovely Australian partner, Tara have been living in Vancouver, British Columbia.

Corey andTara enjoy travelling and had their first extended travel in Vietnam, where they rented a small beach hut and lived on yummy Phở! Collectively they hold 3 national passports, which will come in handy if they ever need to make a quick getaway.

Chris is the youngest of 3 siblings with Amy being in the middle. Amy from a very young age

was always driven and career focused. I can remember many times coming home in the late

hours of the night to find Amy still up studying on her desk and knew that she'll be still at it long

after I went to sleep.

From trying to keep me out of trouble to being the 'woman of the house', Amy was always there

for me. So when the family got news of the wedding they were ecstatic for her since they

knew she can't go wrong. We all love you both and wish nothing but the best for you two.

Lisa is a longtime friend of the bride; she has known Amy for 18 years. Amy is a very honest and direct individual and her friendship has been greatly appreciated over the years. Lisa is happy to take part in the celebration of Amy and Steve’s union.

Lisa will be attending with her longtime boyfriend Milton; as with Amy and Steve, they love traveling whenever the opportunity arises.
